About this event

This will be a combination of Steps to CGC and CGC classes.  Steps students will  be luring the behavior while CGC students will be rewarding the behavior and getting ready to take The AKC CGC test after this 6-week class.

This class will work on the 10 skills needed to pass the CGC test. It is open to all dogs – purebred and mixed breeds. Having a CGC may be an advantage when renting a residence or obtaining homeowner insurance. It may be required prior to registering as a therapy dog. The class is taught by an AKC CGC evaluator.

Canine Good Citizen test is a nationally recognized program that instills a sense of responsibility and good manners in dogs and owners alike. The heart of the CGC program is the 10-step CGC test which consists of the following practical exercises:

1. Accepting a friendly stranger

2. Sitting politely for petting

3. Appearance and grooming

4. Walking on a loose leash

5. Walking through a crowd

6. Sit and down on command and staying in place

7. Coming when called

8. Reaction (not reacting) to another dog

9. Reacting (or not reacting) to a distractions

10. Supervised separation.
