In this 2-week class you will be using platforms for teaching positions in dog training which was introduced to the dog training community by Michele Pouliot. She discovered that when dogs learn to get on a platform, they can easily be taught where to be in relation to the handler’s body - whether a sit or stand in front, a stand in left heel or right heel, or a behind position. They are also excellent for teaching distance behaviors.
The platforms can be manipulated to whichever position the handler chooses to work on. The key to success with platforms is to magnetize the dog to the platform. This means that a dog has been so heavily rewarded for getting on the platform, that he can’t wait to get on! He will actually run or pull the handler to the platform so he can get on!
This 2-week class will help you get started on magnetizing your dog to platforms, show you how to use them to teach positions, and give you some games to continue your work on teaching positions through platforms. The picture to the left shows two dogs that have learned to automatically go to the platform and wait for the next command. This 2-week class will be held on December 8th and 15th @ 1pm at the Dog House.
