HEATHER SUMMERS, AKC Evaluator - Agility, Rally, Competitive Obedience, FIT Dog & Companion Instructor

I started my lifelong career with dogs at 17 and opened my own mobile grooming business in 2008. I bought my first grooming competition poodle Amavi in 2018 (Amavi's Silver Summers Fate AKC- CD, BN, RE, NA, OAJ, NF, CGCA, CGCU, TKA; USDAA-Agility Dog, AJ, SG, SS); and fell madly in love with poodles. Wanting to do more than just trim my beloved new dog, I jumped at the opportunity to join the CDTC to start training. Within a year we received all of the companion titles, RI title and TKI title as well as 2 legs towards her BN title. I started teaching lessons here at the club as a companion instructor in 2019. In 2022 I placed first with Amavi in grooming competitions and again at the end of year won first place with a Bedlington Terrier, 2nd place with Amavi and won Best All Around Groomer. Since then we have gone onto earning our Obedience, BN & CD titles, Rally, RA & RE titles.  Agility titles in USDAA- Agility Dog, AJ, SS, SG. Agility tiles in AKC- Novice Agility Dog, OAJ, NF.  I also compete in Conformation and precision coursing with my first bred by toy poodle Topaz, (RACEA GCH Summers Magnificent As The Sky), receiving his Grand Championship March 2023 and Novice and Advanced Precision Titles. I am currently training him now in AKC Competitive Obedience to prepare for the clubs trials.

I am a first place award winning pet stylist with business awards in the US Magazine The Daily Groomer earning the top grooming business in South Carolina. I am an Advanced Certified Pet Stylist through International Professional Groomers Association, an AKC CGC Evaluator and certified as an AKC level one fitness instructor. I have written articles on canine wellness as well as articles on behalf of the CDTC for the Low country Dog Magazine. I  became a member of the CDTC in 2019, a board member in 2021 and Training Director for years 2022-2023.  I focus mainly on my personal dogs at this time to improve my skills further but do teach a Competitive Obedience Mentorship program for 2024.  Please reach out to me if you have a desire to learn and be competitive with your dog, I'd love to help.

SUSAN CIPOLLA, Board Member - Rally & Scent Work Instructor

Hi! My name is Susan Cipolla and I have had dogs my entire life. I didn't start training dogs for any kind of competition until we got our first Leonberger, Abe, in 2012. Shortly after Abe came into our life, I joined the CDTC and began the journey. We have had 3 Leonbergers who earned titles in obedience, rally, farm dog, trick dog, CGC, therapy work and carting. Our 2nd, Basil, was excellent and entertaining in the sport of scent work, our 3rd, Mist, earned titles in Barn Hunt when all indoor activities were shut down due to COVID and she introduced us to the world of conformation. Our 4th, Laurel, is not quite 18 months old, is just beginning her AKC conformation career and is already a certified therapy dog. I have been a rally instructor for the club, teaching Novice and Advanced rally classes, hosting drop-ins and virtual rally recording sessions. I am currently teaching novice Scent Work classes and hosting pop-up classes.

Amanda Jordan, - Companion, Tricks, Rally and Obedience Foundations Instructor

Amanda has been involved with dogs since 1994 after a dog bite incident that convinced her Mom to let her get a dog, so she wouldn't be fearful later in life. She attended Kansas State University for Animal Science and started clicker training with horses and pigs which lead her to attending a Karen Pryor School event giving her a love of dogs. She has worked in all aspects of dog care, from a shelter in PA (giving her a great deal of experience with dogs with reactivity and behavioral issues), to a Boarding Kennel in Mount Pleasant and finally becoming a dog groomer here in Summerville.
Her breed of choice is the Bulldog and she competes in every possible dog sport with the breed and her COVID mix breed dog Milk. Her dogs all hold multiple titles from CGCA and Urban, CD, RE, Barn Hunt Novice, dCAT, CA TKA and still counting as she is still actively competing.

Debora Donahue, Agility Instructor & Sports Assistant

My interest in dog sports began when I got my first Aussie in 1996.  He was a smart & ornery dog and I needed help so I enrolled in my first puppy class & discovered a whole new world revolving around dogs.  Soon after I retired from a 21-year Air Force career and became active with an Obedience Club in Alaska.  By 1998 Agility came to Alaska, followed by Rally several years later.  I have title dogs through Open Obedience, Masters Rally and earned one TD in Tracking.  My agility experience is mostly with the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) and North America Dog Agility Council (NADAC) programs in
which I have obtained Championships and have titled a dog in AKC Agility at the Masters Level. When I moved to the Low Country in 2022, I joined the local United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA) focus club here in Charleston as well as the Charleston Dog Training Club.  I am an ASCA Rally (all levels) & Obedience (thru Open) Judge and Rally Course Reviewer.
SueRevord.jpg

Sue Revord, AKC Evaluator Companion Instructor & Socialization Host

I’m Sue Revord and I have owned American Cocker Spaniels forever.  Although I’ve been training dogs my entire adulthood, I just joined CDTC in 2022, after I retired from 38 years of teaching 3rd grade.  I’m an AKC CGC evaluator and have begun my “official” dog training career working with the puppy classes, along with Family Dog and Steps to CGC classes.  My husband, David, and I have been breeding Cocker Spaniels for the past 10 years and have enjoyed working together in the training classes.  I love creating activities to help socialize puppies/dogs so they can be the best family pets. I set up the socialization activities for CDTC, so I’d love to see more owners/dogs come to the Socialization Dropins.  I enjoy seeing the pleasure on the owner's faces when they train and become a team with their dog.  We currently have four American Cocker Spaniels. Three are registered therapy dogs, two are working towards agility, rally, and obedience titles.  We’ve also dabbled in barn hunt and scent work, so maybe there will be future titles in those areas also.

Marion Schutt

MARION SCHUTT, - Competitive Obedience Instructor

I have been involved in dog training since I got my first Aussie, Boris, in 1990. Since then, my husband Melvin and I have had seven Aussies who have had varying degrees of success in the show world. I have competed in obedience, rally, flyball and agility. Shows, online classes and seminars all contribute to my ongoing education as a trainer. My strength as a trainer is identifying and solving problems experienced by other handlers and their dogs. I am currently a purely positive trainer. Come on out and give our favorite hobby a try!

Steve/Izzy

STEPHEN MONYKO, Vice President & AKC Evaluator - Companion Instructor

I am the Instructor for the companion AKC CGC classes. I am an approved AKC CGC Evaluator. I moved to Goose Creek from Chicago in 2012. I joined the club in 2015 to train my new puppy. I started working with dogs when I got my first Rottweiler in 1986. I started helping to teach basic training classes with the Gage Park Dog Training Club in the 1990's and I taught there for more than 10 years. The dog breed that I love is the Rottweiler. I have been a member of the Medallion Rottweiler Club more than 30 years. The Titles-Suffix I have earned with my dogs are Star Puppy , CGC , TKI , CD and Sch-Bh.

JANE HIRSCH, - Rally FrEe, Freestyle Tricks & Platform & Clicker Skills Instructor

Jane first learned about clickers in a 1999 puppy class with her first Aussie, Rafter. Using it mostly for teaching tricks, it wasn't until years and two dogs later that she learned the science behind marker-based learning and converted from being a trainer who uses a clicker to a clicker trainer.

She has attended five Clicker Expos which feature the best clicker trainers and behaviorists from all over the world. She has also trained with two of the best clicker trainers in the US, Julie Flanery and Michele Pouliot, many times.

Now every new behavior is taught with a clicker and her dogs love to try to figure out what behavior will earn that click! No matter what dog sport, whether good manners, tricks, obedience, or complex behaviors, the clicker is an amazing tool. An added benefit is that clicker savvy dogs are happy workers and enjoy training!
