At the novice level in AKC Scent Work, dogs search for cotton swabs saturated with Birch essential oil, and alert their handlers of the scent’s location. This class will teach you how to train your dog to recognize and locate the birch scent in the four different element settings of the AKC Scent Work Odor division - containers, interiors, buried, and exterior. We will spend considerable time cementing your dog’s “obedience to odor” and your ability to recognize when your dog has located the odor source, progressing through the elements in the above order as your skill level increases.

The instructors will provide information on the AKC Scent Work titling programs, and guidance for entering your first AKC Scent Work trial.  You will also be provided a small starter scent kit to help prepare you for this class.
