At the novice level in AKC Scent Work, dogs search for cotton swabs scented with birch essential oil and alert their handler of the scent’s location.

In this 4-week class we will teach you how to train your dog to recognize and find the birch scent in two of the four element settings in the AKC Scent Work odor divisions-buried and exterior.

In the Part 1 class, we spent considerable time cementing your dog’s obedience to odor and your ability to recognize when your dog has located the source of the odor. In this Part 2 class, we will continue to progress the skills learned in part 1, however we will not spend a great deal of time learning those skills. For this reason, you must have completed the Novice Scent Work Part 1 class.

The instructors will provide information on AKC scent work titling programs and guidance for entering your first AKC Scent work trial and where to go to find the trials and how to sign up.
